INJURED PLAYER OBTAINS COMPENSATION AFTER OCCUPATIONAL INJURY

Published in 20 de Janeiro de 2026

The Regional Labor Court (TRT) recognized the right of a professional soccer player to compensation for moral and material damages arising from an injury sustained during the term of his employment contract with a club.

The expert report produced in the case confirmed that the athlete suffered an injury with a contributory causal link to the activity performed, emphasizing that the impacts and physical efforts inherent to the profession contributed to the worsening of his clinical condition.

The expert assessment also identified partial and temporary incapacity, noting that the performance of sports activities could aggravate preexisting injuries. The panel highlighted that the employing sports entity bears strict liability for the risks inherent in sports activity and that it is the club’s duty to subject the athlete to regular medical examinations and to obtain life and personal accident insurance.

The decision reinforces the understanding that professional athletes, who are exposed to intense physical demands, are entitled to effective legal protection when injured in the course of their professional activities.
